I've attached a photo of my Aunt Eleanor and I'll be giving you all of her info. She was my Mom's (Frances Jakobek Beebe) best friend in training, during the war and after the war. Eleanor married my Mom's brother Joe Jakobek! Eleanor was like a second mom to me. She actually was there when I was born at home and helped deliver me during a blizzard. I was with her the night she died, she past away in the hospital at age 93. As she was lying in her hospital bed, unable to communicate and close to death, the history channel was on the TV and they were showing the Typhoon that hit either Leyte Beach or Okinawa near the end of WWII. Eleanor had told me of being there during the typhoons, going to the Japanese mainland and bringing back the POW's. It was surely a sign from above! My Mom was there in the South Pacific too on many of the islands. Not always with Eleanor as they were in different squadrons. Here is Eleanor's info. Name: Eleanor V. Farr Jakobek Squad: 820th - see below, her records show her with the 804th but I got 820th from your site with all of the pictures and she is in there. Birth: 12/22/11 Death: 08/23/2005 During the war she was a 2nd Lt. She was promoted to 1st Lt. near the end of her military service. She received her nursing degree from Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa. From her Military Record and Report of Separation Certificate of Service it has her also with the 804th Air Evacuation Squadron in the southwest Pacific area. The records also show under Battles/Campaigns her in the Southwest Pacific area and the Southern Philippines and Luzon. Decorations and Citations include, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, and the American Theatre Campaign Ribbon. Service School: School of Air Evacuation Bowman Field Kentucky She was actually stationed in Japan for a time when the war was over and helped transport the American POW's out of Japan and to Okinawa. After the war she worked as the head lab technician at the VA Hospital in Washington, DC. Eleanor then joined the team at the National Institute of Health as head lab technician and carried out work in cell sizing. She came up with a solution which was utilized to complete important research on the study of blood disease, and was second author of an article describing that work, which appeared in the Journal of New York Academy of Science. The article was entitled "Size Distribution of Erythrocytes by George Brecher and Eleanor F. Jakobek.
