Elma Sophie Mayer was born in Neeley, Idaho on 2 May 1916. She attended elementary school in Neeley and graduated from the American Falls High School in 1934. She studied in school of nursing at Saint Anthony’s Catholic Hospital in Pocatello, Idaho, graduating as registered nurse in 1937. During WWII Elma enlisted in the Flight Nurses program of U.S. Air Force. She trained at Bowman Field, Louisville, Kentucky in 1944, graduating as a 2nd Lieutenant, and was posted to the European Theater of Operations.
She met William Mollenhauer (born 28 December 1915) who was serving as a pilot. They married in Brooklyn, New York on 12 May 1946. My cousin Sally May was born in Geneva, Switzerland, on 11 February 1948. [NB: I do not know why they were in Europe when my cousin was born]. Robert John Mollenhauer was worn on 26 July 1951 in Neptune, New Jersey. They lived in Rahway, New Jersey and retired to Winter Park, Florida. William died in Florida on 24 March 1991 and is buried at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida. Elma died in Winter Park, Florida on 27 January 2009 and is also buried at the National Cemetery in Bushnell.
